Project Description

This very small run down cottage in county Limerick was in need of radical work. When our client came to use our brief was to design an extension that would allow her and her family to grow into it while ensuring that the character of the existing cottage is maintained. To this end we designed a large rear single storey extension with a vaulted ceiling. Traditionally most bungalows in the past usually has a corridor in the middle with rooms off it. This corridor is usually very dark and dull, this was something that we wanted to avoid. To this end we designed a large window at the ridge of the new roof which ensured that the proposed corridor was always exposed to natural day light. The design of the cottage also included a large open plan kitchen and dining area within the original cottage it’s self. To ensure that this area again was bright and airy we designed two small side extensions with floor to ceiling corner windows. At the rear extension we have accommodated three large double bedrooms one with master ensuite and two walk-in-wardrobes, utility, bathroom and a large living room again with floor to ceiling windows.
